Wingin' It Art was created by Dean Hollis, but is now owned and operated by his brother, Steven. About four years ago, Dean's mom decided she wanted some "real" butterflies to hang on some new nature wallpaper she had hung in her hallway. Part of Dean's curriculum in getting his Horticulture degree was taking arthropod classes and making an insect and butterfly collection. This collection was part of his final project. Dean and a friend of his grabbed their butterfly nets (think about it - it's a funny visual) and went all over Southern California in a quest for the best collection and grade (A+) they could get. Dean learned to "process" and pin real insects because of this class and this is how he eventually ended up volunteering for the "let's do a fun family project" his mom was so intent on. Soon after the fun family project was started, a relative wanted some framed butterflies, and her best friend wanted some framed insects. Fast forward to a large custom project for a prominent architect in Orange County where Dean created a framed insect or "bug wall" in the architect's office. Wingin' It Framed Insect Art was now launched. Our framed insects and butterflies are now in antique and gift shops, museum gift shops, as well as local and regional art shows.
